It is a fact that in the development of the human female from child to mature women has an awkward in-between stage. This is the teen age when a female is no longer, by any means, a child, but also is not yet quite ready to be considered a mature woman. This fact is well known to the modern clothing industry. There is certainly no group of people anywhere that are more concerned with appearance and style in their clothing, and less concerned with functionality, than teenagers or young women. Clothes may cover the body, barely in some cases, and they may afford some protection from the hostile elements. This is not, however, the reason they are sought and purchased in such great quantities by young women. It is all about being trendy and looking good.

The average large department store will have a girl’s section, a junior’s section, and a women’s section. Junior does not really depend much on size. It is true that most juniors clothing stores use odd sizes such as 5, 7, and 9 while the women’s sizes would be even, but this does not mean junior clothing is not available for larger or smaller girls as well. Once again, it is style and being trendy that makes one outfit a junior and another a Women.



The most popular Junior Clothing Stores are located in Malls. They are usually smaller and concentrate as much on presenting a trendy and hip decor as they do on inventory. They are staffed mostly by young and attractive clerks who project the store’s image. It is not uncommon to have music playing and video screens showing young and hip people enjoying the good life in the stores clothing are often used.

Juniors clothing stores generally are very expensive as well. They understand that this group of females are willing to spend extra money for a name on the label. It is all about vanity and it is all about looking young. Many young women continue to pursue the junior look well into their late twenties and early thirties when suddenly something seems to click inside them and they begin to return to the age old reasons for buying clothes such as practicality and functionality.
